Current evidence suggests that hands-on therapies—including massage, joint mobilization, and manipulation—may help some people reduce pain and improve movement in the short term. These therapies are generally most beneficial when combined with an active movement and rehabilitation plan rather than used as stand-alone treatments.
Mind Body Potential sessions may be especially beneficial for people who are willing to connect with their bodies through movement, sensation, and vocalization during hands-on sessions. We incorporate Shared Decision-Making (SDM) into our sessions, allowing you and your therapist to work together throughout the treatment process.
Your therapist is a trained professional with the education and skills to support you. However, your therapist cannot know exactly what you are experiencing during hands-on care. A passive session can be relaxing and may be appropriate at certain times. When you are experiencing pain or discomfort, you can communicate what you are feeling in the moment. This communication can help guide the treatment, improve your body awareness, and support a deeper understanding of how you experience and manage pain or discomfort.
Through this collaborative process, the therapist’s hands become more responsive tools guided by your awareness and feedback. Hands-on work may be more effective when you actively engage with your body and work together with your therapist.
